Full Body Skin Cancer Examination

In order to get the most out of your skin check, during the appointment your doctor will aim to comprehensively check as much of your skin surface as possible. The doctor or a trained photographer will take images of any lesions which are of clinical importance. All assessment and clinical decisions will be performed by your Skin Cancer Doctor. Skin imaging assists with planning, surveillance, treatment, and follow up. You will be offered access to these images via the Molescope app. Please make sure to read the information on how to prepare your skin for your skin check appointment.

Total Body Photography (TBP)

Around the time of your full skin examination it may be recommended that you have a set of Total Body Photographs. These high resolution photographs (either  2-D or 3-D) aim to image as much of your skin surface as possible. These full body image records are taken and securely stored to be used during future skin checks - they can assist with detecting new or changing lesions, and also avoiding unnecessary biopsies at future skin checks. Serial TBP (ie more than one set) is an important tool in melanoma detection for people who are at higher risk of developing melanoma, such as people with many moles or a personal or family history of melanoma - read more as to why total body photography is important.
